Library
The Screven County Library provides Sylvania residents with resources and services to meet their informational, educational, business and recreational needs. The library alo provides entertainment materials and cultural events and resources.
Special focus is placed on providing and maintaining an adequate reference collection to support current and reliable information for the community and encouraging Sylvania residents to develop an interest in reading and lifelong learning. The library is a learning resource center for all library patrons in the community.
Supported by an active Friends of the Library organization and a dedicated board of trustees, the library offers ongoing reading programs, story hours, arts and crafts programs and other events. The library is also part of the Georgia Library PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) system, the automation and lending network for more than 275 libraries and affiliated service outlets in about 140 Georgia counties.
PINES creates a statewide "borderless library" that provides equal access to information for all Georgians. Sylvania residents with a PINES library card have access to materials beyond what is available on the local library shelves and enjoy the benefits of a shared collection of 9.6 million books and other materials that can be delivered to their home library free of charge.
The library also offers its multi-puropse meeting rooms for any legitimate non-profit purpose, including the following:
Library sponsored programs and activities.
Friends of the Library programs and activities.
Civic groups and club meetings.
Exhibits.
